Call to re-examine collective bargaining
Retired Chief Labour Officer Vincent Burnett says a lot of the industrial action in Barbados could be avoided if collective bargaining was pursued in a true, just and mature way. Collective bargaining is a negotiation process between an employer and a group of employees, usually represented by a union, to determine their terms of employment, including working conditions, salaries and benefits among other things. Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers Wayne Walrond, in supporting Mr. Burnett, says dialogue could go a long way, but not enough time is given in most instances for talks to occur.
