Calls for government to fund education for parents and caregivers surrounding social media

RMIT University Professor of Information Sciences Lisa Given discusses the importance of education for parents and caregivers following the social media ban for those under 16. “We’ve certainly seen over the last few weeks many parents saying that they’re struggling to sort out what to do with their kids online and how to keep them safe,” Ms Given said. “There have been surveys done that show that parents actually also want that digital literacy training. “The government hasn’t put forward any plans to inject some funding or other resources into these areas but that’s really critically needed now.”
