Recycling exporters are warning new regulations could force them to pass on millions of dollars in costs to consumers. The proposed legislation will charge companies more for the approximately 1.2 tonnes of excess paper and cardboard Australian recyclers export each year The National Waste and Recycling Industry Council is calling on Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to scrap the proposed changes. They say they amount to a 'recycling tax' and will only lead to increased costs to the public and more recyclables ending up in landfill. The regulations are proposed for recyclables exporters from July 1.
