Canada has an “opportunity” to align with Mexico, US on China: Freeland

Canada's Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Friday during a media availability in Toronto that Canada has an “opportunity” to work with the U.S. and Mexico to develop a “clear and aligned” policy on China. Freeland added that the Canada- United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) is a trade deal “that works” for all three countries, adding that the best outcome for Canada is to maintain the agreement already in place. However, she said the government has heard the concerns of Canadian business leaders that Mexico could be “a backdoor” for Chinese investment and goods – and has been clear with its trading partners about these concerns.
