Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Lima, Peru on Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed concerns from media regarding the potential implications of an incoming Donald Trump administration on trade, economy and order. “People know that Canada managed to steer through the first Trump presidency with significant success in creating jobs and opportunity for Canadians and American workers,” said Trudeau, who highlighted the important of emphasizing the “win-win” aspects of trade and creating growth for all. Adding that there was less “unknown” about an administration under Trump than last time, Trudeau said some countries at the summit were probably “accelerating” certain actions in the coming months, but that leaders are thinking about “how to position themselves” for the most part over the coming years. “Donald Trump is someone who tends to do what he says he's going to do. And that means people are going to be able to think about how to position themselves best given some of those things that are coming. And that wasn't necessarily the sense back in 2016,” Trudeau said.
