Canada "not ready" to expand MAiD for mental health: minister

The expected Canadian expansion of medical assistance in dying (MAiD) to people whose sole condition is mental illness has been put on hold, following a joint parliamentary committee report found fundamental issues have not been resolved. Health Minister Mark Holland announced the pause on Monday, which is the latest delay to the expansion and comes months after a postponement last year, due to opposition from the country's top psychiatrists.
