Canadian government facing calls to improve protections for women facing violence
People around the world came together Monday to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. A United Nations (UN) report released today found that 60 per cent of all women and girls who were intentionally killed in 2023 — 51 thousand people in total — died at the hands of their partners or family members. In Canada, there are calls for more protections against intimate partner violence and femicide.
