Canadian Housing Minister to provide update after meeting with provincial counterparts
Canadian Housing Minister Sean Fraser is scheduled to hold a media availability on Monday. Fraser’s appearance will immediately follow a meeting with his provincial counterparts in Halifax at the Halifax Convention Centre. Along with Immigration Minister Marc Miller, Fraser said last week that the federal government is working to stabilize the number of immigrants entering Canada every year as housing pressures mount. Despite the ongoing housing crisis, lack of affordability, availability and an increase in homelessness, the government increased the number of permanent residents Canada welcomes each year to 500,000 in 2025 — nearly double the amount from 2015. Liberal ministers, however, have defended their decision to boost immigration levels, as it has allegedly supported the country’s economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
