Boxer Saul Canelo Alvarez attended Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning news conference on Friday (November 29), where the reigning WBC and WBO world super middleweight champion endorsed sport, and boxing in particular, as a means for positive change amongst children, teenagers and young adults. Alvarez encouraged the endorsement of sports to develop a disciplined and healthy lifestyle, and described how he had seen boxing changing the lives of many for the better. Sheinbaum also revealed plans to hold massive boxing classes throughout the country on April 6 next year to coincide with the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Under Sheinbaum’s leadership as Head of Government of Mexico City, they set a Guinness Record for the largest boxing lesson involving 14,299 participants at the city center in June 2022, while over 30,000 returned a year later in an unofficial new world record.
