CARICOM bringing attention to challenges faced by SIDS
Chairman of CARICOM and Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, has been amplifying the voices of SIDS in the region, by bringing attention to several challenges. He told a leaders' summit of the small island developing states on climate change, that money can be found to address the climate crisis as trillions are found to fight wars. Prime Minister Mitchell made a plea for the financing gap to be closed. Secretary General of CARICOM, Dr. Carla Barnett warned gains made by member states are at risk, as they continue to bear the brunt of climate change. She says the challenges are unprecedented, including extreme heat and weather, sea level rise and warming ocean temperatures. Dr. Barnett has welcomed the use of artificial intelligence or AI in the fight against climate change.
