Carla’s Christmas prayer | ABS-CBN News

Carla Marcelo is a toll Plaza Operations Associate at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). A day for her consists of assisting motorists as they pass through the toll plaza on to their journeys in and out of Metro Manila. “Ang mga katrabaho ko muna ang aking kapamilya at kasama sa Noche Buena,” she said. Spending Christmas away from family is not easy for anyone. It is much harder for someone like her, since she has to deal with all kinds of travelers who are themselves on their way to their own Noche Buena destinations. “Panalangin ang Sandata ko sa buhay,” she said. “Hindi ho kayo maniniwala, dito sa office, sa prayer po ako lagi naka-assign.” After recently losing her parents, Carla said her sadness becomes more bearable while she works at the toll plaza. She had dreamed of working in a toll booth ever since she was a child. It started when she got a smile from a toll booth teller, she said. “Paglaki ko sabi ko gusto ko masubukan yung ganitong trabaho, yung makaka-greet ka ng mga tao sa sasakyan nila,” she said. Carla is now the one waving and sending smiles to motorists. Carla looks forward to getting home after work on Christmas day to bring gifts to her siblings after a night spent serving others first.
