After being declared as the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Mark Carney – former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England – promised to “stand up for Canada.” Carney first commended his predecessor, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for nearly a decade of service, and for being “a fighter for Canada.” “You have led us through some of the hardest challenges that this nation has ever faced,” Carney said to Trudeau. Having spent the last two months campaigning for “big change” across the nation, Carney, 59, assured his party colleagues that he would “eliminate the divisive carbon tax” and put up a respectable fight against U.S. President Donald Trump’s recently imposed tariffs. “My government will keep our tariffs on until the Americans show us respect,” he said. Criticizing opposition leader Pierre Poilievre ahead of an inevitable federal election, Carney said, “Trump thinks he can weaken us with his plan to divide and conquer. Poilievre’s plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered. Because a person who worships at the altar of Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/11073834/liberal-party-new-leader-canada/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #MarkCarney #Canada
