CDB: Workforce losing more workers than it's attracting
The Caribbean Development Bank wants Barbados and the region to take steps to ensure countries do not fall into what it termed an ageing trap, where they lose more workers faster than they can attract. Statistician Dindial Ramrattan says while migration is critical, the Caribbean is identified as one of the fastest ageing societies in the world. With advances in health that have assisted in lowering the death rate, it was found that birth rates are falling. He recommended attention be placed on engaging with the workforce. Mr. Ramrattan was at the time presenting a study on gender differentials in the job market of the region. The study also found males and females are reporting the same level of concern as it relates to equity of opportunity and promotion, along with fear of discrimination.
