Central Asia takes center stage at COP29
For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) is currently underway in the capital city of Baku, Azerbaijan and it is seen as a pivotal opportunity to ramp up action to tackle the climate crisis, bringing leaders from governments, the business community and civil society to advance concrete solutions. What is the focus this year? With 2025 looming, have countries – especially industrialized nations – honored their commitments since the 2015 Paris Agreement? In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan talked with Zulfiya Suleimenova, advisor to the president of Kazakhstan and special representative of the president on International Environmental Cooperation. She is also the inaugural high-level co-pair for transparency at the COP29. Suleimenova highlighted Central Asia's progress toward climate mitigation and adaptation as the region is directly and substantially impacted by rising temperature and extreme weather events. She also praised China's leadership in fighting climate change. "We are seeing strong climate leadership from China," she noted.
