Certain risky manoeuvres during massages could lead to serious injuries, death: Doctors
Thai doctors are warning against massages by untrained people, after two people died in Thailand over the weekend following such treatments. A 52-year-old Singaporean man died after a 45-minute oil massage which led to breathing difficulties. A 20-year-old Thai singer also succumbed to weeks of illness, following "neck-twisting'' massages at a parlour. Dr Jonathan Tan from the National University Spine Institute talks about how massages affect the body. He shares how a massage to the spine or neck could be dangerous, or even fatal, with the wrong techniques applied. He also speaks about red flags to look out for during massages, whether age could be a factor affecting susceptibility to complications post-massage, and other long-term complications.
