China college stabbings: Fatal attack leaves 8 dead, 17 injured at vocational school
A fatal stabbing spree in China's eastern province of Jiangsu left at least eight dead and 17 others with injuries at a local college on Saturday. Flower tributes poured in for the victims on the following day, and local residents blamed mental health for the cause of the attack. The 21-year-old suspect was tackled and detained by authorities in a field at Wuxi Vocational College of Arts and Technology shortly after the attacks. Police officials said the former student was upset after failing an exam and not receiving his graduation certificate. “I feel that in our current society, there is more general violence now. Everyone's mental health is not as healthy as before,” a local resident said. “In recent years, I’ve found that there have been a lot of murder cases, more so than before.” Saturday’s hostilities come less than a week after the deadliest attack China has seen in a decade.
