China earthquake kills over 100 people, triggers landslide
Authorities in China’s Gansu province said on Tuesday that a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck close to midnight killed 105 people and injured 397 in the province, as of 9:30 a.m. local time. Thousands of homes were either damaged or collapsed, while power and communication lines were disrupted, state broadcaster CCTV reported. Images shown on CCTV showed search and rescue crews digging through rubble and excavators being used to clear mudslides. China’s finance ministry and emergency management ministry have allocated 200 million yuan (US$28 million) in natural disaster relief funds to the impacted Gansu and Qinghai provinces, CCTV reported.
