China says Taiwan "hyping up" military threat for electoral gain

China has accused the Taiwan government of intentionally "hyping up" military threats from the mainland for electoral gain. The self-ruled island is set to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on Jan 13. China is critical of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) candidate William Lai -- who is the front-runner -- and has labelled him a separatist.
