As Chinese leaders met at the annual Central Economic Work Conference (CEWC) to set key tasks for 2025, "promoting technological innovation" has been replaced with "boosting consumption and domestic demand" as their top priority. Analysts said China has responded to its prolonged economic downturn with an urgency not seen in many years. The outcome of the two-day CEWC will guide officials in the coming months as they set the annual economic growth target for next year. The closely watched number will be unveiled during the annual 'Two Sessions" in March, when officials gather to discuss and approve government budgets. Tan Si Hui reports.
