City Of Port Of Spain Rolls Out Holiday Safety And Vending Plans
The Port of Spain City Corporation is continuing efforts to ensure the nation's capital is ready to safely and comfortably accommodate members of the public during the Christmas Season. This was disclosed by Mayor of Port of Spain, Alderman Chinua Alleyne, during the Corporation's Statutory Meeting on Wednesday. He said while it is always a priority to ensure the city is maintained, additional resources will be allocated to certain projects during periods of increased activities. "Again, the clean-up campaign continues tomorrow and it will be supported not just by our staff from the Engineering Department but also by the police, ensuring that the traffic management is followed well so that we could be able to do it in a responsible manner." The Mayor is also reminding the public of the city borders. He said the Port of Spain City Corporation always offers its support, but he is certain that his colleagues from the neighbouring Corporations have their requisite plans in place. "I have received text messages from some members of the public asking me when the clean-up campaign is coming to their community. Just to advise that Port of Spain begins at Cocorite and ends at John John and goes as far North as Queen's Hall." According to Deputy Mayor, Councillor Abena Hartley, in response to a request made by the Port of Spain vendors, the City Corporation has devised a vending schedule for the Christmas season. She said their decision was informed based on recommendations by Superintendent Glen Charles of the City Police and the limitations of available police officers. "As such, a recommendation has come forward that vending in the first two weeks of December starts on a regular day, which is Thursday and ends on Sunday evening and the last week, which is the 19th to the 24th, Christmas Eve, the vending programme will run for the entire week." The Port of Spain City Corporation is continuing to plan and execute a number of other planned initiatives within the City.
