‘Clearly didn’t communicate’: Controversy surrounding Trump’s tariff plan
University of California Political Scientist Professor Louis DeSipio says Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and Donald Trump “clearly didn’t communicate” to resolve the proposal of a 25 per cent tariff on all imported Mexican goods to the US. Ms Sheinbaum pushed back on President-elect Trump's claims they reached a verbal agreement on the border and migration and said her country's firm position is not to close borders. “Clearly they didn’t communicate very well,” Mr DeSipio told Sky News Australia. “President Trump heard one thing and President Sheinbaum probably offered something else. “The United States depends on Mexico not just for agricultural goods, not just for manufacturing but also to help with its immigration enforcement and Mexico has been critical both in the Trump administration and the Biden administration.”
