Climate investment plan to create new jobs
Government has announced a new billion-dollar climate investment plan, that will among other things aim to create thousands of new jobs. Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley outlined the key targets of the Barbados National Resilience Plan, which runs up to 2035. It includes the expansion of the deepwater port, positioning Barbados as a transhipment hub, future-proofing essential systems such as water and roads as well as comprehensive investments in a dozen priority areas. Prime Minister Mottley says about 17 billion of this sum is to be sourced from the private sector. The remainder she says will have to come from the public sector, given that it relates to social goods.
