CNN embarrassed after reporter helped free notorious al-Assad regime torturer
CNN has been left embarrassed after a reporter released a notorious member of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Last week, CNN journalist Clarissa Ward entered a secret facility in Syria where they found a prisoner lying on the floor. Ward, who helped the prisoner out of the facility, called the moment “one of the most extraordinary moments I have witnessed." Independent fact-checkers, however, dispelled the video with a detailed report on the moment on Sunday. The “independent and unbiased” fact checkers found that the prisoner was none other than Salama Mohammad Salama. Salama was a first lieutenant in Syria’s air force intelligence with an alleged long history of war crimes, according to The New York Post. CNN acknowledged a story by The New York Post and stated it was “continuing” to report on “the wider story”. “We have subsequently been investigating his background and are aware that he may have given a false identity. We are continuing our reporting into this and the wider story,” CNN stated.
