Coalition aims to ‘promote more competition’ in supermarket sector

Liberal Senator Dave Sharma says the Coalition is aiming to introduce divestiture powers to “promote more competition” in the supermarket sector. “Now in Australia we’ve got three dominant players: predominantly Coles and Woolies and then Aldi to a degree that control about three quarters of the market,” he told Sky News Australia. “So what this power’s about … it’s designed to promote more competition in the sector and curb abusive market power.”
