‘Cold comfort’: Markets price in more than 50 per cent chance of a February rate cut

Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume has commented on the possibility that in February of 2025, mortgage holders could see a rate cut by the Reserve Bank. This comes as the chances of a rate cut before the next election have increased as the Reserve Bank is slowly gaining confidence in its forecast for inflation to fall within the target band during the first half of next year. “This is certainly going to be cold comfort for those families with a mortgage that were hoping for a rate cut before Christmas,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.
