Complaints continue about abuse of the elderly

26/09/24
Dans Caraibes / Barbade

The premature acquisition of land by grandchildren, physical abuse and elderly abandonment are all complaints made to the Ministry of Elder Affairs and People Empowerment on a daily basis. Elder Care Advisor in the Ministry Cynthia Forde wants families to work with, and not against, the seniors given the sacrifices they have made for the society. Ms. Forde added this abuse goes against the very nature of Barbadian culture, where seniors were treated with the utmost respect. She was speaking on the sidelines of a birthday celebration for one of her constituents, Sarah Ann Benjamin, a resident at The View Seniors Home who turned 104 years today. She wants citizens to cherish the elders instead of abandoning and mistreating them.
