The staff of the Consumer Affairs Department underwent a two-day training exercise to educate themselves on investigative techniques and case management. This follows the enactment of new consumer protection legislation and the establishment of the Consumer Protection Council. The Council offers the public an alternative avenue to address disputes. It is made up by seven members appointed by the Minister for Commerce including representatives the Saint Lucia Bar Association, and the Chamber of Commerce. Director of the Consumer Affairs Department, Wendy Frederick, says the training will ensure that consumers get better representation in court.
