Control of the US Senate: Key seats at stake in Texas, Florida, and crucial swing states
The race for control of the US Senate is closely contested, with 34 seats up for election. Currently, Democrats hold 47 seats with support from four independents, while Republicans hold 49. With West Virginia’s Independent Joe Manchin retiring, Republicans are likely to gain that seat, potentially resulting in a 50-50 split, where the vice president’s party would control the Senate. Democrats face challenges in key swing states and risk losing seats in Trump-favoured Ohio and Montana. Their best chances for flips are in Texas and Florida, where Democratic challengers face narrow but tough races against incumbent Republicans. Al Jazeera’s Laura Kyle explains.
