COP 29 gets underway in Azerbaijan
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is among world leaders in Azerbaijan, attending the 29th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP 29. She was greeted at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, by Azerbaijani's Cultural Minister Adil Karimli and other officials. The summit officially got underway today with a stark warning from COP 29 President Mukhtar Babayev. COP 29 discussions are on the transition to clean energy, and are likely to be overshadowed by financial considerations. Developing nations are said to need 2.4 trillion dollars annually, for a shift away from fossil fuels and climate change mitigation.
