Among the lot is California governor Gavin Newsom, who at 56 years old, is two decades younger than both Mr Biden and Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. He has been described as already running a shadow campaign for the top job, going on foreign trips to meet leaders of other countries and positioning himself globally on climate issues.
