The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has announced that Denis O’Brien has acquired full ownership of Cricket Sporting Investments Limited (CSIL), the holding company behind CPL Limited. This move follows a comprehensive sales process managed by Digicel Group Holdings Limited (DGHL), the former majority shareholder. O’Brien, who has been involved with the CPL since its inception in 2013, expressed his excitement at the acquisition. "I have a deep love for the Caribbean and its people, and I’m thrilled to see the impact the CPL has had in uniting local communities," he said. Richard Bevan, Chairman of CPL, also shared his enthusiasm, noting the tournament's growth into the region’s best-attended sporting event. He emphasised that O’Brien’s full ownership would ensure continuity and foster even more opportunities for Caribbean cricket. O’Brien, a prolific entrepreneur, founded Digicel in 2001 and remains a key figure in several sectors including telecoms, media, and hospitality. He is also the founder of the Digicel Foundation, which has supported over 2,900 community projects across the Caribbean. Pete Russell, CEO of CPL, highlighted O’Brien's pivotal role in the tournament’s early days, saying his decision to take ownership reflects his commitment to the future of Caribbean cricket.
