CREATING AWARENESS THROUGH SPORT
The sports day activities involved She Soars which is an initiative project funded by Care International that focuses on adolescents who are out of school countrywide. The message that was uttered out towards the youth was how they can use sport as one way to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS in Uganda. The sports day was a way to show that through sports an awareness can be made in order to remove the stigma in Uganda. Youth from Reach Out Mbuya, Uganda Youth, Kiswa Village and She Soars all gathered for a day of fun packed activities that included football, musical chairs to mention but a few. Besides the sports activities, the general experience was felt by the youth on the grounds. Lyzbet Namakula stated that these activities enable the youth to correlate with one another in spite of their insecurities. Uganda has a target plan of ending AIDS by the year 2023. It is estimated that 1.4 million people are living with HIV with 80,000 of those indicated as children.
