There's concern calypsonians and other creatives are not doing enough to encourage Barbadians to live healthier lifestyles. It's coming from Vice President of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition, Dr. Kenneth Connell. The Deputy Dean, of recruitment and outreach, at the University of the West Indies, believes the same way calypsonians and other artistes sing about crime and other topics, they should be highlighting the issue of non-communicable diseases which is a public health crisis. Dr. Connell raised the concern as he contributed to a public health talk themed 'Crop Over, Culture and Cardiac Disease'. Meanwhile, Head of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Cardiovascular Services, Dr. Dawn Scantlebury reports an increasing number of Barbadians continue to die from cardiac diseases. She says people are dying younger as a result of cardiac-related issues.
