Crime Round-Up: Suspect Held For Robbing Tourist, $5.5 Million In Marijuana Seized
A suspect was held minutes after he robbed a tourist on Charlotte Street on Wednesday. According to police reports, around 11:35am, the victim and her husband, passengers of the Emerald Princes cruise ship, were walking along Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, when a male suspect allegedly snatched a gold chain from around her neck. The suspect then ran along Charlotte Street onto Queen Street. Officers who were on foot patrol were alerted to the incident and gave chase. The suspect was apprehended at the corner of Queen and George Street and handed over to officers of the Central Police Station. Investigations are continuing. And $5.5 million worth of marijuana was seized during an anti-crime exercise in St. James on Thursday. According to police reports, around 3:45am, members of the St. James Criminal Investigations Department and personnel from the St. James Charge Room were conducting an exercise at Western Main Road St James. During the exercise, the officers intercepted a blue Hyundai Tucson driven by a 38-year-old welder, who resides in Diego Martin. When the officers searched the vehicle, they found 13 bales containing compressed marijuana which weighed 334 kilogrammes. The man was arrested and taken to the St. James Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
