Cross-Strait relations: Is the 1992 Consensus still relevant?

Taiwan's incoming President William Lai is set for inauguration on Monday (May 20). China asserts that his party, Democratic Progressive Party is pro-independence, meaning the DPP's leadership, in Beijing's eyes, is pursuing the idea of establishing an independent country. Cross-Strait relations have been strained, with China ramping up military drills, as well as political pressure, in a bid to assert its sovereignty over the island. The main reason for this is the party's rejection of the 1992 consensus which Beijing views as the basis for maintaining ties with the island. CNA's Victoria Jen explains.
