In the political brawl over Australia's future energy needs – the CSIRO today released its report which estimates the future demand and supply of the country’s system, according to Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood. The GenCost report is created by the CSIRO in collaboration with the energy regulator AEMO. “It says despite nuclear power is a component of electricity generation in 16 per cent of nations, it is adamant nuclear is not a timely or efficient solution for Australia's net zero target,” Mr Greenwood said. “It says nuclear is not competitive with solar or wind power and that though small modular reactors are potentially faster to build, they are commercially immature and that the total development lead time means nuclear can’t play a major role in emissions abatement – which is more urgent than in other sectors.”
