Daniel Penny found not guilty in NYC chokehold death, Jordan Neely's family call system "r
The family of the late Jordan Neely has spoken out after his killer, Daniel Penny, was found not guilty in a New York City court on Monday. "I've had enough of this," Neely's father Andre Zachary told reporters following the verdict. "The system is rigged. Come on people, let's do something about this,” he added. Neely, a 30-year-old Black man with a history of mental illness, was killed on May 1, 2023, after being strangled for roughly six minutes by former U.S. Marine Sgt. Daniel Penny. Penny’s defence said the white 26-year-old used a chokehold to restrain the seemingly agitated Neely and protect other commuters. Though New York City mayor Eric Adams said “Jordan should not have had to die” and acknowledged a “failure” in the city’s system during a Monday press conference, he said he “respects the process” of the courtroom jury and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
