Half of all homes in Singapore will soon be covered by a programme that can lower the risk of dengue. Authorities are expanding Project Wolbachia to reach about 800,000 households by 2026. This is up from about 520,000 homes now. They will achieve this by releasing mosquitoes that carry the bacteria needed to do the job. Dr Louisa Sun, Deputy Director at the NUS Centre for Infectious Disease Emergency Response, explains the project's positive ripple effect and the potential side effects on immunity over the long term.
