Developing local sports at a 'grassroot level'

Shakeem Nurse is the senior boy's champion of the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Easter junior road tennis tournament. Sports Minister Charles Griffith, who took in some of the action, says it is important to host junior tournaments for the development of the sport at the grassroots level. Minister Griffith also highlighted how Government plans to further support the continued growth and success of the sport. In the other finals: Playing in the finals at the Belfield Road Tennis Courts in Black Rock over the weekend, Nurse defeated Tyrease Holder in two straight games 21-17 and 21-19, winning the boys' 18 to 21 division. Azarie Clarke won the boys' 15 to 17 section after beating Jael Greaves at 18 & 18. Ranesha Stewart took the girls' 11 to 16 division, defeating Kezia Blunt 16-21; 21-19; 21-18. Kenoja Belgrave won the boys' 11 to 14 section at 18 & 16 over Tyrico Brathwaite. Nyal Bushell secured the primary school boys title at 18 & 19 over Devonte Gill. And Jakara Archer is the primary school girl's champion after beating Sariah Howell 21-17; 17-21; 21-16.
