Dignity Kits Distributed To Community Organisations

Eight community organisations received dignity kits courtesy the Ministry of Gender and Child Affairs and other stakeholder organisations. The kits, comprising a backpack equipped with sanitary napkins and other personal care items, are primarily for women and girls during personal crises and in times of emergency. Minister of Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, said the distribution of dignity kits to civil society organisations is an example of the symbiotic relationship between the Government, stakeholders, and community based partners. "Today, we will be distributing approximately 48 dignity kits to eight organisations here in Trinidad. And to my fellow Tobagonians who might be listening, I didn't leave all you out. Eighteen kits will be sent to Tobago for distribution." The distribution of the dignity kits is part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence observed by the Ministry of Gender and Child Affairs. The Minister singled out the Men of Purpose Organisation, praising them for supporting the cause. "Men of Purpose will also be receiving dignity kits, and you might be wondering how come a men's group getting the dignity kits. Because Men of Purpose realise, recognise, and accept that they have to be your allies in creating a gender just society. So at times in delivering their service, they may encounter single mothers who may need the assistance and they have been graciously lending that support to women. So thank you Men of Purpose for heeding the call." Minister Webster Roy also thanked the United Nations Population Fund on behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for their consistent and valuable partnership in this initiative. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence started on November 25th and will continue until December 10th, Human Rights Day.
