Displaced in central Gaza face worsening conditions with sewage floods, scarcity and health crises
In Gaza’s Deir el-Balah displaced people face dire humanitarian conditions in makeshift tent encampments. Sewage water floods the area, and families struggle without necessities. Children spend hours daily collecting water due to the collapsed sanitation system. Many displaced from northern Gaza live in crowded, unsanitary conditions, suffering from lack of medication, insufficient food, and unclean water. Weight loss, exposure to insects, and the threat of epidemics as winter approaches are major concerns. The lack of basic hygiene tools exacerbates the situation. Despite being designated as a safe humanitarian zone by the Israeli army, conditions are worsening daily, prompting calls for international protection. Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum reports from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.
