Donald Trump is warning there’ll be “hell to pay” if Israeli hostages aren’t released. America’s President-elect posted the threat on his social media platform, Truth Social. Mr Trump gave a deadline of his inauguration next month, declaring that “those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied history of the USA”. Although he didn’t specify, it’s assumed he was referring to hostages held in Gaza after last year’s October 7 attack by Hamas.
