Door which flew off Alaska Airlines plane mid-flight found in Oregon backyard
The missing door plug from an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 has been found two days after the panel tore off the aircraft mid-flight, forcing pilots to make an emergency landing, authorities said Sunday. “I’m excited to announce that we’ve found the door plug. Thank you, Bob,” said National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chair Jennifer Homendy, announcing that an Oregon man had contacted the agency to report he had found the plane’s door plug in his backyard. Investigators will examine the plug, which is 26 by 48 inches (66 by 121 centimetres) and weighs 63 pounds (28.5 kilograms), for signs of how it broke free. Investigations also revealed the cockpit voice recorder had been overwritten by the time of the crash.
