DUBAI FLOODS, LESSONS TO LEARN FACING CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGES

Unprecedented, torrential rainfall plunged parts of the United Arab Emirates underwater last week, bringing life to a standstill in Dubai and elsewhere. A firehose of heavy rain gushed over a large portion of the UAE and Dubai – the country’s most populous city – recorded a year’s worth of rain in just 12 hours as areas farther east recorded nearly 2 years’ worth of rain in under 24 hours. Floodwaters rose quickly and were slow to recede as a result of the historic deluge, which was the most extreme event in the country since records began 75 years ago. Researchers claim that these floods should have been avoided.Religious leaders on the pother hand say that floods are a sign of Jesus’s second coming. Zoe ministries under prophet Elvis Mbonye say that the prophet fore Saw and warned of unprecedented torrential rains that would pound Dubai. In a recording dated 6th December Mbonye is seen saying that the time has come when the people’s glory will be exposed that they will have to turn to the Lord god. AMBIENCE. IN Uganda however, researchers and climate change activists say its time to preserve the environment put up drainage systems and plant trees.
