Dutch scientist Gertjan Medema on winning Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2024

Dutch scientist Professor Gertjan Medema was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize this year. The prize recognises individuals or organisations for their contributions towards solving water challenges. Professor Medema was honoured for his work in wastewater-based epidemiology, which Singapore used to monitor traces of COVID-19. He shares with CNA what this award means to him. He also spoke about how his work could be applied to pick up other types of diseases and the lessons learnt during the pandemic that could impact public health surveillance policies.
