Ecuador state of emergency: Navy patrols waterways to combat criminal organizations
Ecuador’s armed forces have taken patrolling the country’s waterways as part of their efforts to combat criminal organizations. The operations provide authorities an opportunity to prevent drugs or illegal substances from being loaded into the vessels headed to Europe, an unidentified navy officer said. After a wave of violence that struck the South American country, President Daniel Noboa declared a 60-day state of emergency last week, including a nighttime curfew, and designated 22 criminal groups as terrorists.
