Education in Karamoja - MPs adopt motion for compulsory free boarding education in Karamoja

Parliament has considered a motion to introduce free and compulsory boarding schools in the Karamoja sub-region. The sitting in Gulu has given the government six months to study the initiative, as proposed by Achia Remigio, the Member of Parliament for Pian County. Remigio argues that compulsory boarding education would enhance the disarmament exercise by keeping pupils and students in school. The Minister of State for Primary Education, Joyce Morriko, suggested that if adopted, the policy should benefit not only Karamoja but other regions as well.
