Efforts continue to address challenges in care economy
Government continues to address challenges in the care economy to ensure there is no discrimination. According to Minister in the Ministry of Economy and Investment Senator Chad Blackman, one of the ways they're seeking to ensure those working in the sector are appreciated, valued and have the necessary resources and tools, is through the recently passed Barbados Population Policy 2023. He says one of the critical goals of the policy is to promote and strengthen the care economy for the vulnerable population. Senator Blackman was addressing the High Level Policy Dialogue on Gender Equality. Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Simon Springett says care work represents one third of female employment across Latin America and the Caribbean.
