Eight migrants die while attempting to cross English channel

Latest government figures show 801 people attempted to cross the channel on 14 boats on Saturday 14 September, making this the second highest daily total so far this year. Eight people have died and six others, including a baby, are being treated in hospital after their vessel "tore apart on the rocks" in Ambleteuse, northern France.
