Expert warns against uncertified herbal medicines

The head of the Chemotherapeutics Research Institute under the Ministry of Health has warned consumers of herbal medicine to buy only from licensed pharmacies to avoid health complications that may arise from consuming uncertified products. Speaking to NTV, Dr. Grace Nambatya, the Executive Director of the institute, stated that over 300 locally-made herbal medicines have been certified by the National Drug Authority and are available on the market. Today, herbalists and other traditional healers converged at Makerere University’s School of Public Health to commemorate the 22nd African Traditional Medicine Day.
